A Glimpse of Cowan – 1890-1891

A village southeast of Winchester, the county seat, 64 miles from Chattanooga and 87 from Nashville.  One of the furnaces of the Tennessee Coal, Iron and R R Co. is located here.  Baptist, Christian and Cumberland Presbyterian churches and two public schools.  W.U. Tel., and Southern Express.  Population 500.  J.H. Short, Postmaster.
